Textile Research

Research and Development (R&D) Department

Although the Research and Development (R&D) Department is a new addition to most of the textile mills, its importance has increased over time, as has the demand for skilled manpower in the R&D department in the textile sector.

There was a time when basic knit fabrics such as single jersey, PK, rib cloth were mostly exported from Bangladesh. The trend has changed over time. Consumers' tastes have changed. Demand for exceptional clothing has increased. Over the years, it has become increasingly difficult for retailers around the world to hold buyers in a competitive market by selling garments made in almost the same construction.

The research and development team of the retail companies has analyzed the market and added new dimensions to the construction, design, color and quality of the fabric keeping in mind the tastes and needs of the buyers. Local and international buying houses are turning around and all the new construction, design, color, quality fabric swatches are starting to reach the textile mills.

For textile mills accustomed to making basic construction fabrics, a separate department - R&D (Research & Development) is created from the daily buyers' need to research and develop all new constructions, colors, designs, quality fabrics. In order to survive in the competition, most of the textile mills have their own R&D department. Demand for textile engineers in the R&D department began to grow.

As the number of skilled R&D specialists is less than the demand, the facilities have increased. Besides textile mills, job opportunities for R&D specialists have also been created in the buying houses. However, in order to be a good R&D specialist, there is no substitute for technical skills as well as contemporary skills in career developing.
