We want to empower everyone – our passengers, our teams and our local communities – to take action and engage with the environment.
It’s an ambitious goal, but the benefits of taking the train over flying are huge when it comes to environmental impact, so we’re on a mission to encourage travellers to switch from short-haul flights to high-speed rail.
We know that if people are going to switch, they’ll need routes and connections that take them further. That’s why we’re always looking to expand our reach across Europe, with travellers connecting to a whole range of destinations beyond Paris, Lille and Brussels.
Earlier this year, we launched a new partnership with Special Olympics Great Britain to support athletes with intellectual disabilities heading to the 2014 European Summer Games in Antwerp, Belgium.
As the exclusive travel partner, we provided all return travel and logistical and VIP support for 100 Special Olympics GB athletes, coaches and officials heading to Brussels from St Pancras International on 9 September and back again on 22 September.
We held a special ceremony for the team on the platform before they set off to compete. Members of the Eurostar team waved flags to show support for the athletes, set to inspirational music played by a brass quintet from the Royal College of Music.
We were delighted to support the great work of Special Olympics GB and their team representing Britain at the Games. In our 20 year history we have carried many teams for key sporting events including transporting the French, Belgian and Dutch national teams and the French and Belgian Paralympics teams for London 2012 and are proud of the support we provided these inspirational athletes, ensuring travel was an integral part of their overall experience.
